APERTO IL CROWDFUNDING DAL 4 NOVEMBRE
IL 31 DICEMBRE SCADE IL BANDO DELL’ 11^ EDIZIONE DEL CONCORSO INTERNAZIONALE DEDICATO AI FIBER ARTISTI UNDER 35
ECCO ALCUNI PARTNER DEL PREMIO
C’è tempo fino al 31 dicembre per poter partecipare all’undicesima edizione del Premio Valcellina – Concorso internazionale di Arte Tessile Contemporanea che punta sul tema WE(H)AVE. Inoltre dal 4 novembre sarà possibile sostenere i giovani artisti del Premio attraverso una campagna di raccolta fondi sul portale di crowdfunding “Produzioni dal Basso”. Gli artisti che finora hanno aderito provengono dalla Lettonia, Danimarca ma anche dall’Iran – per citarne alcuni – e i primi sei classificati avranno la possibilità di frequentare dei corsi di approfondimento presso le accademie e le istituzioni partner nelle loro sedi di Roma, Firenze, Bologna, Mercato Saraceno FC, Haslach (Austria).
Tra questi spicca la nuova collaborazione con il Textile Zentrum (Centro Tessile) di Haslach, cittadina che si trova nel nord dell’Austria, una tradizionale area di produzione del lino. Fondato nel 2012 in un’antica fabbrica tessile il Centro, oltre ad ospitare un Museo e annualmente un Simposio Internazionale, offre opportunità di alta formazione su diverse tecniche tessili con corsi tenuti da docenti internazionali.
Tra i partner storici ha particolare rilievo la Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio di Firenze. Fin dalla prima edizione il Premio Valcellina, nel 1996, era presente sulla loro rivista “Jacquard”e in occasione dell’ultima edizione del Concorso ha ospitato Sofia Bonini, quarta classificata, per un corso di Tessitura ad Arazzo. Alla vincitrice dell’ultima edizione del Premio Valcellina, la canadese Sarah Betrand-Hamel, è stata assegnata come premio una borsa di studio presso la Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) di Firenze dove grazie ai laboratori ha potuto creare delle opere, poi esposte nella galleria della scuola. Dal 2011 anche l’Accademia Koefia di Roma offre una borsa di studio ad uno dei premiati: l’ultima edizione ha ospitato la taiwanese Yen-Yu Tseng. Sempre dal Taiwan, l’artista Chiung-Yi Chiung, seconda classificata l’anno scorso, ha avuto invece modo di frequentare la residenza d’artista RAD’ART project dell’Ass. Arteco (Mercato Saraceno FC), dove ha ideato e lavorato al suo articolato progetto “Hidden Project”. Anche l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna è da molti anni partner del Premio e ha ospitato l’artista Taiwanese Chiung-Yi Chiung per un periodo di studio; è inoltre presente agli eventi del Valcellina Award con mostre collaterali.
“Come si evince da questo articolato panorama – spiega la Presidente Annamaria Poggioli – che fa da sfondo ad un evento storico e consolidato, il Premio Valcellina si conferma la punta di iceberg dell’attività della nostra Associazione, in quanto la cultura del tessile si dispiega a pieno titolo in tutte le sue modalità e i suoi risvolti: è arte, artigianalità, manualità, imprenditoria, educazione e formazione, e in particolare è socialità in un’ottica di internazionalizzazione. Forte infatti di una storia lunga e di spessore, il Premio continua a tessere relazioni attraverso scambi con esperienze artistiche da tutto il mondo e il titolo We(h)ave, di questa edizione vuole confermarne la valenza. I giovani sono comunque gli interlocutori che ci stanno più a cuore, i veri depositari delle nostre iniziative che ripartiranno da gennaio prossimo anche nelle scuole del nostro territorio con interventi e laboratori, consapevoli, noi promotrici, di avere una precisa responsabilità: quella di mantenere alta la qualità del Premio e di implementarne la diffusione e la conoscenza”.
Le iscrizioni al bando sono aperte fino al 31 dicembre 2019 e sono rivolte a tutti i giovani artisti under 35 e provenienti da tutto mondo. Procedura on-line su www.premiovalcellina.it.
La promozione del Concorso è possibile grazie al contributo della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia e del Comune di Maniago, il sostegno dell’Ecomuseo delle Dolomiti Friulane, dell’UTI Valli e Dolomiti Friulane e di BCC Friulovest Banca. L’evento gode del partenariato di numerose istituzioni tra cui l’ ETN European Textile Network.

31 DECEMBER 2019: CLOSURE OF ENTRIES FOR THE 11TH EDIZIONE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION DEDICATED TO YOUNG FIBER ARTISTS UNDER 35
PRESENTING SOME OF THE PARTNERS OF THE AWARD
Entries for participation in the 11th Edition of the Valcellina Award International Textile Fiber Arts Competition will be closing on 31 December. The theme of this years event is WE(H)AVE.
From 4 November it will also be possible to support young artists who participate in the award, through a crowdfunding campaign called “Produzioni dal Basso” (“Production from the Ground Up”). The artists who have participated to date include entrants from Latvia, Denmark, and Iran – to mention just a few. The first six prizewinners are given the opportunity to attend masterclasses at the partner academies and institutions in Rome, Florence, Bologna, Mercato Saraceno (in Forli-Cesena), and Haslach, Austria.
Amongst the partnerships, the new collaboration with the Textile Zentrum of Haslach, is of note. Haslach, a small city in the North of Austria, is an area well-known for linen production. The Textile Zentrum, founded in 2012 in an old textile factory, houses a museum not to mention an annual International Symposium, and also offers masterclasses in various techniques of textile-making with instructors from different countries.
Amongst the long-term partners of the Award, the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio di Firenze has been of particular importance. Since the first edition of the Valcellina Award in 1996, the Award has been featured in the Foundation’s magazine entilted “Jacquard”. In the last edition of the Award, the Foundation, played host to Sofia Bonini, fourth place-winner, for a course of Tapestry weaving.
First prize-winner in the last edition of the Award, Canadian Sarah Bertrand-Hamel, chose a scholarship at the Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) in Florence, where she created works which went on display in the gallery of the school.
Since 2011 the Accademia Koefia of Rome has also offered a scholarship to one of the prizewinners and in the last edition played host to Taiwanese artist Yen-Yu Tseng, winner of third place.
The winner of second place in the last edition, also from Taiwan, Chiung-Yi Chiung attended an artist’s residency at RAD’ART project at the Arteco Association (Mercato Saraceno FC), where she designed and realised her articulated opus entitled: “Hidden Project”.
Chiung-Yi Chiung was also hosted for a period of study at the l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, another long-time partner of the Valcellina Award. The Accademia is to be found yet again among contributors to the events of the Award with side exhibits,
“As is evident from the articulated series of events which are the backdrop to this consolidated competition” – explains President Annamaria Poggioli – “the Valcellina Award is the tip of the iceberg when we consider all of the activities of the Association, because the Association enables the culture of Fibre Arts to flourish in all its modalities, and with all its implications: in art, artisanship, entrepreneurship, education and training. In particular Fiber Arts have a social aspect, within a perspective of internationalisation.
On the strength of its longevity and reach, the Award continues to weave connections via exchanges of artistic experience from everywhere in the world, and and the title of this edition “We(h)ave” aims to underline this aspect of sharing.
Young artist are, in every case, the interlocutors we have at heart – the focal-point of our activities, in the calendar of events which restarts in January 2020 in the schools in our region, with talks and workshops. We of the association are mindful of our absolute responsibility to mantain the quality of the Award, and to disseminate awareness /knowledge of it.”
Entry to the competition is open until 31 December 2019, and is open to all young fiber artists aged under 35 from all around the world. Instructions for applying online are at: www.premiovalcellina.it.
