COMUNICATO STAMPA

PRESS RELEASE

THE VALCELLINA COLLECTION

FOLLOWING THE EXHIBIT AT THE ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM, UDINE –

THE VALCELLINA COLLECTION DOCKS AT ARTPORT, PALAZZOLO DELLO STELLA, UD

Saturday 1 June at 6:30 pm saw the inauguration at Artport in Palazzolo dello Stella, of Zone Umide (Wetlands) the collective Exhibit curated by Eva Comuzzi. On display are works from the Valcellina Collection belonging to the Le Arti Tessili Association from Maniago, PN, created by artists Wona Cho, Annette Erfurt, Anna Fadini, Vania Falcomer, Sunna Kangas, Elisa Margareta, Giuseppe Scala, Lucia Pagliuca and the Ming Dao University group. The nine works are mounted together with textile works, collages and photographs by Alice Biondin, artist already present in the Artport collection.

The title of the exhibit refers not only to the marshy areas in lower Friuli, between waterways, swamps and mist on the river Stella, where we find Artport, but also from the title of novel Wetlands ( Zone Umide) by Charlotte Roche, which opens walking through the personal (feminine) hygiene department of a supermarket, seeming to incessantly enquire whether we women are clean enough. Bottle upon bottle of specific products, liquids, gels, coloured, antibacterial, perfumed with violets, vanilla, or lemon- a thousand solutions to a single “problem”, a single insistent message: your body is not as clean and fresh as it should be. And the only way to render your body inoffensive, acceptable, is to disinfect it and perfume it at every chance you get.

The intention behind this exhibit, which will remain open until 30 June, is to provide an opportunity for the two associations, Artport and Le Arti Tessili , to make public part of their collections of paintings and textile artworks, pit them against one another, and in so doing reciprocally promote each others’ activities, open new collaborations and create a network in uor Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Another section of the exhibition, with 14 artworks from the Valcellina Collection, will be on display at the Ethnographic Museum in Udine, in dialogue with the permanent exhibition, until 1 September, during which period meetings and guided visits by Eva Comuzzi have been arranged.

The exhibition Zone Umide will be on display at Artport, via del Traghetto, 3, Palazzolo dello Stella (UD) Mon-Wed-Thurs-Sat: 3.30pm-7pm, Fri: 5.30pm-7.30pm.
